Frequently asked questions
How does OCR work in the browser?
fixtdoc uses Tesseract.js, the same OCR engine as Google's Tesseract, compiled to run entirely in your browser. Your documents are never uploaded to any server — all text recognition happens locally on your device.
What languages are supported?
Over 60 languages are supported, including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and more. Language packs are downloaded once and cached in your browser for future use.
What is a searchable PDF?
A searchable PDF looks identical to the original but has an invisible text layer added on top. This lets you select text, copy it, and use Ctrl+F to search — even though the pages are scanned images.
How many pages can I OCR for free?
Free users can OCR the first 3 pages of any document per operation. Upgrade to Pro to process all pages in a single pass. The file stays loaded — nothing needs to be re-uploaded after upgrading.
Can I OCR images instead of PDFs?
Yes. You can upload multiple JPEG, PNG, or WebP images. Each image becomes one page in the output. Drag to reorder them before running OCR.
